Technology

Subaru has been the champion of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for over 35 years. Such a long standing commitment has given us the advantage in improving the technology still further – and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system is one of our engineer’s crowning achievements. The Horizontally – Opposed Boxer engine allows for a lower centre of gravity, while the symmetrical drivetrain allows for a well-balanced vehicle. The All-Wheel Drive system then distributes power to all four wheels. For you the driver, it means outstanding balance, and more predictable vehicle control in a wide range of driving conditions. Boxer Engines

Compact and lightweight Horizontally-Opposed Engines are intrinsically smoother and more efficient than In-line or V-shaped engines. That is why Subaru has carefully thought through the idea from day one. Superb rotational balance means less vibration, because the pistons mutually counteract the lateral vibration. Obviously, the flatter design also means the engine can sit much lower within the chassis, which gives a lower centre of gravity and total compatibility with the symmetrical All-Wheel Drive layout and suspension systems. This is in keeping with Subaru's constant goal to achieve the best performance, safety and control to benefit you, the driver.
